Founded in 1892, Mortonhall Golf Club is the oldest course within the city of Edinburgh where golf is still played today. Situated just south of the city beside the Braid Hills, the course occupies part of the historic Mortonhall estate, land once granted by Robert the Bruce in the 14th century. Several notable architects shaped the layout during its early years, including Willie Park Jr., J.H. Taylor and James Braid, while Fred W. Hawtree later redesigned and extended the course in the 1970s. The tree-lined parkland course is known for its immaculate conditioning, strategic holes and elevated views across Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth and the Pentland Hills. Today Mortonhall remains one of the finest parkland courses in the Lothians, combining historic pedigree with a classic championship layout.
